Happy Birthday Emperor of Badass!

Today is Conker's birthday. He is now 3 years old. Like the past two years, I got him a cornish hen for his birthday feast.

He ate the whole thing and greatly enjoyed doing so!

Spines and Parties

Baby Beef day 9: Liver, lung, and spine sections. Big meal today!

 

The Girls crunched, munched, ripped, and tore through their spine sections. They LOVED today's meal and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Sasha was very efficient with her section, incredibly wolf-like in the way she ate it. Juneau was a bit more dainty than her sister.

My neighbor gave me one of those smart phones that she never uses anymore, which has a camera (and is the reason she gave it to me) so I can now take pictures that I can actually see what my subject is and are of semi-decent quality! I can take video and audio recordings too, but I haven't figured out if the video is always silent or what yet. Still learning how to use this thing.
(No, I will not be using it as a phone. Just a camera.)


Today my neighbor (who gave me the smartphone) threw a birthday party for her Carin Terrier, Toby, who is turning 9. There was something like 16 or so dogs who showed up, including my three. All of whom behaved much better than I thought they would, no fights or squabbles occurred. (Conker and Juneau barked a few times but didn't start anything.)
There was an assortment of dogs: Bullmastiff, Bloodhound, Bulldog, Yorkshire, Carin, Tibetan, and West Highland White Terriers, my two mutts, a Standard Poodle, The Emperor (a.k.a. Shiba Inu), Dachshund, and a generic Labbish dog.
I lent Conker to an elderly Irish lady for the party since she had no dog of her own, with whom Conker became good friends and behaved nicely for. We tied balloons to the dog's collars and marched them down the street, people giving us odd looks, some coming out to see what the parade was for.
After the parade we migrated to the backyard for cake and yogurt snacks, which Sasha hogged out on, eating Juneau's share several times, and Conker ignored.

Overall it was a lot of fun, the dogs enjoyed it (especially Sasha who is now in a food-induced coma), and I am very proud of Conker for not being a jackass to everyone and behaving well for the Irish lady.

Birthday Q's

Today I "celebrated" the Girl's 7th birthdays by giving them some raw food. I do not know when their exact birthday is, so I slap it right in the middle of August (I do know it's in August) and call the 15th their birthday.
Conker also got some, but he's decided to be a food critic again.

 Chicken quarters, beef heart and thymus, lamb liver, and green tripe.

This time Sasha did not hide in the bushes. I finally got a half-way decent picture of her eating.

 

Both of the Girls ate their food with gusto, not leaving a single trace left. Conker on the other hand ate everything but the chicken. I don't know what his deal is.

Conker is two years old today

Today is Conker's 2nd birthday. Since we just got back from an exhausting trip (lots of running and hiking) we aren't going to do anything special except lounge around the house, and probably go to the dog park/creek a little later.

Hiking in the Badlands Wilderness

I bought Conker a cornish hen, it's defrosting right now, but I doubt he'll eat it. He's been off food recently (I blame the traveling), not eating more than a small handful of kibbles over several days. He did eat a lot of chicken jerky that was given to me at the lure coursing, and a bit of my beef jerky. He showed interest in some Zuke's treats when we were in the Badlands and some freeze dried treats I had, so he ate a lot of those. He had a few bits of kibble when we got home, but nothing else so far.

He's still the same insane Conker, just not eating much at all.

Unfortunately, he really loves bread and would eat as much as he possibly could. If he didn't have those nastyass problems with wheat I'd probably buy him a whole loaf so he would at least be eating something. But, I can't find any bread that ain't got no wheat in it, and I have no clue how to make any (Fail Bread) and he won't touch any homemade foods anyways.

New Years's eve + Birthday!

The year 2011 is almost over, and the end of the year marks the birthday of somebody I know.  This somebody is turning 50 (which is apparently an embarrassing age) so they will remain unnamed.  Anyways, Happy 50th!

Today I took Conker and Juneau on a quick 3 mile hike at Cathedral Hills.  Both had a lot of fun and both were sporting new gear which will be written about in a few days. In the meantime, here's a sneak peak at Juneau's stuff:

Taste Test: ZiwiPeak Venison

I haven't been able to find any ZiwiPeak within a 30 minutes drive of my house so I shot an e-mail over to the service center on the site and asked if they could send a sample.  A couple days later, this arrived on my doorstep.

The box was much mcuh larger than I thought a sample would be and was surprised that the "sample" was an 8 ounce bag of the venison Daily-Dog Cuisine!  That was enough for a couple days instead of a single meal.  The sample came with a measuring cup that is equal to 1/2 regular measuring cup.

Ingredients:
Venison - Meat (min. 65%), Liver, Tripe, Heart and Kidney (min. 19.5%), Chicory Inulin, Green-lipped Mussel (min. 4%), Fish Oil, Lecithin, Kelp, Vitamins and Minerals, Parsley, Naturally preserved with mixed tocopherols, additives: Vit. D3 592 IU/kg, Vit. E 7.4mg/kg, Copper (copper proteinate) 9.8mg/kg. Calories 1794 KJ/100g.

The only ingredient I find to be a problem is the lecithin which is soy-based, but other than that it looks great, especially for an almost completely meat diet.

One scoop of ZiwiPeak.

According to the instructions, Conker should get about 2 scoops a day, or something around 6 ounces.  I gave him one scoop with some extras like Honest Kitchen, ground beef, egg, etc. since this wasn't an actual trial.  Anyways, Conker LOVED the Ziwipeak and didn't have any immediate adverse reactions to it so I hope to pick up a bag sometime soon for an actual trail, possibly while I'm in AZ for the holiday.

I also used the food for treats while re-crate training and it worked out good for that too.

If you want to give ZiwiPeak a try and don't want to buy an expensive bag, sent an e-mail asking for a sample. I was more than satisfied with mine.



On a completly unrelated note...
Today is my birthday.  I'm 23 and still live at home with Mom.  Yippee-ki-yay... not finishing that.

Happy Birthday Conker!

Today is Conker's birthday!  He is one year old.  I got him when he was four months so I've had him for eight.  He is by far my favorite dog that I've owned and am looking forwards to many more years with him.

Conker's presents are:

An orange Chuckit (that I actually got for Juneau) and some Lamb flavored Jerky Naturals.

Three beef trachea chews (all natural, from the farmer's market) and best of all...

A Cornish hen!  Conker freaked out when he saw the take the hen out of the fridge.  Up until then he'd never seen it but instantly knew what it was and he had this amazed look on his face, it was priceless.  It was almost like he was thinking "Is that whole chicken for me?  Really?  And I can eat however much I want?  No way!  This is so awesome!"  And he about did eat the whole thing.  He left a bit if meat and bone that he'll get tomorrow since he ate so much today.

Yep!  And that's that.  We're probably gonna go to the dog park later and play around with the Chuckit a bit after Conker's had time to digest his meal.

June 28th

In a couple days some relatives will be coming up from Arizona for the Fourth of July.

Hopefully, since they will be staying at our tiny house, the relatives will be willing to follow my rules with Conker.  There are going to be six additional people in the house: My grandparents and my uncle, aunt and their two kids.  Conker hasn't met any of these people yet.  He's been really good about strangers coming into the house lately but it's never been more than three people at a time. 
Grandma and Pop are getting here on Thursday, the other four on Sunday, I think. So it's not going to be everyone at once but in a period of four days, six new people will be in the house and won't go away for a while.  I hope Conker doesn't flip out.

Conker's birthday is drawing near.  He will be one year old in July.  I'm thinking of getting him a Cornish hen for his birthday meal and letting him eat as much of it as he wants, within reason. I imagine that something like that he would have no choice but to chew and would enjoy eating.
I also need to get him some more treats, I'm completely out.
